This is a dictionary of all of the foreign terms I use in my stories. I hope to eventually get all of the translations off of my regular stories and keep them centrally located in this file.

This is edited to make things a bit easier to read. Eventually I will list all stories beside the word/words that are used in them. Right now there are some words in the dictionary from stories I've taken down. I plan on eventually putting these stories back up.

akni - A very derogative term for drug dealers, whores, people who buy the services of whores, etc. in Sindla.

Illithri – blonde Elven race who favors forests

Kimrayan – black haired Elven race who lives in the desert

Kreshana - A desert cat that's been declawed and is now the pampered housepet of a Sindlan.

Lunara – a single month in the Lytharian, Erondahlan, and Andinan calendars; it is only 28 days long, following the cycles of the three moons. (All stories)

Mai’rishahd - Kimrayan word to signify the old ruling council of the Bladedancers.

Majiin – a race of humanoid beings that are the children of the Goddess of Magic; they are the only truly neutral race in all of Vassa, often serving those who need their help at a whim

Ne sala – Elven for “my beloved”

Pathla – This is a cross between a bedroom, an office, and a room for the treating of mild injuries in the Healers’ enclave.

pudao - The Chinese Pudao, originally an infantry weapon, has been adopted into the martial arts and its use in the hands of a skilled practitioner is spectacular. This weapon is also known as a horse-cutter sword, since it was used to slice the legs out from under a horse during battle.

Sennight – “seven night” – this is the demarcation of a week in all the lands of Vassa. (All stories)

Sennit – shortened version of sennight (All stories)

Sentai - Master/Mistress; is used to denote someone of considerable rank in Sindla that does not yet have the rank/honor/prestige/etc. to be classed as a Settai.

Settai - Lord/Lady

Sika mallets – It’s a game kind of like croquet and cricket mixed with polo. Don’t ask me…the characters created it.

Sindla - Desert home of the Kimrayan Elves.

Sindlan - Northerner's name for the Kimrayans.

sissa – Childish reference to a younger sister.

Sketha - A word that functions as a generic swearword.

Terathen – part dragon humanoid race

Terig’nar - "The Six Who Rule"; the name for the three Light Dancers and the three Dark Dancers in Sindla, generally led by the White Dancer, also known as the Bladedancer of Life or Lifedancer. Ymindia – this is the childish form of a much more complex phrase that is used to indicate a deceased loved one, usually a grandparent or an aunt or uncle

Phrases

Ana’hala, nekansa omarnis. – "My soul cries for you, mother of my heart."

Ikahi, ne salan. – A very common farewell among Elven married couples that means “Be at peace, my beloved.”

Ils eternum, ne sala – Elven promise of marriage; it means “For eternity, my beloved.”

Ma’hela, mother. – “Light keep you, mother.” A very formal greeting from a living child to her deceased mother.

Two final comments:
Dictionaries are usually organized in a way both writer and reader can understand. I don't understand how yours is organized.

Second: Sennight is an English word and has been so since Chaucer's time. If your English dictionary didn't tell you so, chuck it out. Try one of the Oxfords or even a classic edition Websters.

Good luck with the story, I look forward to the re-write.

:-) A.M. Guynes replies: "I'm aware of the fact that 'sennight' as been around since Chaucer. However, since it's NOT a common English word, I provided the translation here as per the translation rules on Elfwood. This dictionary is actually here because of those rules as well. I'll get around to organizing it eventually, but right now it's just the random phrases that pop up in my stories."

I'd recommend putting this in alphabetical order. Otherwise, it seems all right.
